Assigning different materials to faces of a single object

In Object Mode, select your mesh and go to the Material Properties tab. Create multiple materials by clicking the + button, then "New" for each one. Enter Edit Mode, select the faces you want, choose a material slot, and click Assign. Repeat for other face groups and materials. Each face now uses a different material.
